A quiet, happy spot nestled among a natural mountainous landscape where families can go hiking or play sports, bringing people, nature, and the local community together.
It is located upstream of Utano River Dam, in the spring the Senbonzakura flowers dance, early summer is famous as Genji Firefly's attraction. It is ideal for families with sports, such as camping in summer, hiking in autumn.
Mt. Hoki is an ideal area for flying. Gaze out below at the Kikugawa area.
In this grassy field of around 100 hectares, the spring brings unruly blooms hydrangeas amid the new greenery. The sights of the dairy cows out to pasture and the white herons perching are also very peaceful. Ideal as a place to spend a day getting away from it all.
The gentle flow between two differently sized waterfalls creates a pure stream, which is scattered amid boulders. The vermillion “kappa” bridge. The green foliage and the clean air. The sounds of the river frogs. The perfect river valley for a picnic.
The burial mound around which this park is built is thought to be the grave of a chief who led a settlement some 1,300 to 1,400 years ago. There are three circular mounds from the Kofun Period.
The temple storehouse contains a Ming-dynasty sutra in an octagonal storage pillar; the sutra was printed in the latter half of the 17th century. At 5,443 this temple has the most hanging decorations in Japan.
The main temple, built in 1212, enshrines the Akasagarbha Bodhisattva. The building was burnt to the ground but was rebuilt in 1958.
To-no-Mine Park is situated atop rolling hills in the center of the town. It is home to a statue of Kannon that is reputed to protect the safety of local traffic and offers views of the Kikugawa area. Tradition states that, long ago, the castle of the To Clan was built here.
The Lane of Smiles, which has been turned into a riverside park, is, as the name implies, a beautiful park full of nature and that brings smiles to visitors’ faces. The cherry blossoms in the spring are spectacular.
A riverside sports park where you can sweat with jogging courses and shuttlecock golf (nine holes). There is also a grassy square by the water’s edge and stairs that go into the water.
